One of the missions of the Fulbright Commission is to assist U.S. educators who are involved in international educational exchange with issues concerning recruitment, admission, credential evaluation, search for partner institutions, study abroad programs etc. in the Czech Republic. The event will also include a U.S. Higher Education Fair for prospective students from the Czech Republic. For more information about program and registration go to the official website.

A description of a development and a reform of the higher education in the Czech Republic was included in the session "Changes in Czech University Environment - Exchange Programs Helping the Reforms" presented by Hana Ripkova, the director of the Czech Fulbright Commission, at NAFSA Conference 2006 in Montreal. The Czech Republic participates in the Bologna Process. A great resource of information on the implementation of Bologna Declaration in the Czech Republic is available at World Educational Services (WES) website. REAC Report: From Reykjavik to Vladivostok: Student Advising Trends from EducationUSA Europe and Eurasia 2007-2008

The European REAC report provides U.S. schools with information about trends in European countries that influence the flow of European students to educational institutions in the U.S. It also provides a review of activities of the EducationUSA advising centers in the European region, including information on resource links, educational system, contacts, upcoming events, and parnering. The report is available online A print copy can be ordered from the REAC for USD 25.

Fulbright EducationUSA Advising Center and Library

The Fulbright Commission operates the EducationUSA Advising Center - the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic with one full-time adviser and comprehensive library of directories and other reference books including test preparation materials for standardized tests.

The Center, according to EducationUSA mission, does not endorse or rank any college or university, nor does it endorse services provided by any company or organization in the areas of test preparation, admission, placement, language training, or visa procurement.

GUIDELINES FOR SENDING INFORMATION MATERIALS TO THE EDUCATIONUSA ADVISING CENTER

We welcome information materials send by schools, however we prefer electronic versions send through the e-mail.
We do not keep a reference library anymore as local students prefer online information too.
If you still want to send us print materials or brochures, please send just one copy of each one only.
We prefer materials with information targeted specifically to international students.
Information about scholarships and specific scholarship announcement are especially appreciated.

Recruitment Calendar: When to Recruit in the Czech Republic?

The Advising Center compiled a calendar with listing of national and public holidays, academic schedules, vacation period etc. and with recommendation for the best time for visiting the Czech Republic for recruitment purposes. This information should help U.S. schools with planning their recruitment visits in the Czech Republic. The Recruitment Calendar can be downloaded here.

E-mail List Study-X for Prospective Czech Students

The Advising Center runs a special e-mail list Study-X for prospective Czech students interested in study abroad. Study-X is web-based and moderated with open membership, meaning that anyone can post messages or search archives. If you want to place an announcement, please send to the advisor.

College Fairs

The Advising Center of the Fulbright Commission does not organize educational fairs. U.S. schools can use services of professionals in the field. Here is a short overview of some organization that were or are involved in organizing education fairs in the Czech Republic in past years:

Contacting Secondary Schools: Presentations, School Visits Etc.

If you are interesting in contacting secondary schools directly, you can use a database of secondary schools of governmental Institute for Information in Education. The database is, however, in Czech but if you click on the button "Vyhledat" (means "Search"), you will receive a complete list of 1359 secondary schools in the Czech Republic. In the search engine you can also use specific criteria like "Uzemi školy" (school location, for example Praha - Prague) or "Typ skoly" (type of school). In this criteria, you may decide to concentrate just on "Gymnazium" (342 schools) as this kind of schools provides Czech students with college preparatory educational track (advanced courses).

Czech public secondary and higher education is generally free of charge. Traditionally free public education causes a psychological barier between U.S. schools that charge tuition fees and prospective Czech students. "Paying for education" is still an unpleasant idea for most of Czech parents and students when they have a "free" option. However the growing number of private secondary schools and colleges that charge tuition too slowly generates a group of parents and students who are used to the idea that education is also a financial investment and thus do not perceive a tuition as a psychological problem. It means that students at private schools can be a relevant target group for U.S. recruiters. Such students are coming from families that can afford paying some tuition and that are also willing to do so. Private schools are associated in the Association of Private Schools of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. Contacts for private secondary gymnaziums members are available here. Study Abroad Programs and Educational Exchanges

The Advising Center of the Fulbright Commission endevours to collect information on opportunities for Americans to study or research in the Czech Republic. The study opportunities can be offered directly by Czech universities and other institutions, or by U.S. organizations, or in cooperation of both. Interested students can find all different kind of programs, from short term study programs (summer, semester or year) up to full degree programs. A brief summary of the current state of cooperation between the U.S. and Czech institutions of higher education (agreements, exchange of students and faculty etc.) can be downloaded here.

List of schools that participated at the Central European Universities Booth at the 2008 NAFSA Expo is available here. These schools could be considered as most prepared and most welcoming cooperation with the U.S. partners.
