U.S. students, scholars and teachers can obtain a financial support for their study, research, and teaching stays in the Czech Republic hrough the following scholarship and grant programs.
The Fulbright Program is open to all fields be it Liberal Arts or Hard Sciences (except for MBA and Clinical Medicine). Proposals in American Studies and Central European studies are welcome as well as proposals studying intercultural or interdisciplinary aspects. Academic qualities of proposals are decisive for obtaining the award.
Selection procedures on the U.S. side are administered by non-profit organizations: the Institute of International Education (student program), Council for International Exchange of Scholars (programs for research and lecturing) and International Institute, Academy for Educational Development (programs for high school teachers). Prospective candidates should contact these U.S. institutions and apply through them.
Fulbright Commission in the Czech Republic however can assist candidates with finding and contacting possible partner schools, research institutes and other academic and reseach institutions in the Czech Republic.
Fulbright U.S. Students and English Teaching Assistants Program
U.S. Student Program offers opportunities for recent graduates, postgraduate candidates, and developing professionals
and artists to conduct career-launching study and research in the Czech Republic. Advanced graduate students capable
of working independently are preferred. Applicants should have some experience in the proposed field of study.
Knowledge of Czech is essential for successful completion of specific study plans (e.g., studies of Czech language,
literature, history) or programs in Czech.

Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program
This traditional program allows U.S. scholars and professors to research, lecture or cooperate on curriculum
development in the Czech Republic for semester or academic year.

Fulbright Specialist Program
Fulbright Specialist activities is designed to provide U.S. faculty and professionals with
opportunities to collaborate with professional counterparts on curriculum and faculty development,
institutional planning and a variety of other activities. The program awards grants ranging from two to six weeks.
The program is open to qualified U.S. scholars and professionals in specified fields.

Fulbright Classroom Teachers Exchange Program
The Fulbright High School Teacher Exchange Program provides opportunities for qualified educators from the
United States and the Czech Republic to participate in direct exchanges of positions for a full school year.
Usually, four Czech teachers and four U.S. teachers participate in the program each year.
Most frequently, English language is the subject taught by the American teachers in the Czech Republic
because any other subject would usually require a bilingual (Czech, English) teaching at a Czech school.
Program participants have the opportunity to live and work in the cultures of their host countries,
an experience which has benefits for the teachers, their schools, and their communities. This experience
is both gratifying and challenging. Maturity, flexibility, adaptability, and inventiveness are necessary
traits in successful Fulbright teachers.
