Study in the United States

Why Study in the United States

Half a million of students from all over the world study at some of more than 3,500 U.S. institutions of higher education. There are nearly 1200 students from the Czech Republic among them. Why did they choose school in the USA?

Quality of Study and Research

Teaching methods that emphasize continuous all-year long work and critical thinking provide a very intense and effective experience. Schools are excellently equipped and students have chance to work with cutting-edge technologies. The United States is also a leading country regarding research and technological development. Large number of world`s top researchers from all over the world works just in the USA.

High Level of Services for Students

Students at U.S. schools are clients and this is reflected in attitude of institution. Students can utilize academic and career advising, and many schools have a special department for assistance to international students. Schools usually have great facilities not only for study but also for extra-curricular activities and sports.

Variety of Schools and Choice of Educational Programs

Students of all interests and levels can find an educational program that will match their expectations and qualifications according to their needs. Flexible programs allow students to gain broader perspective than the narrow professional one and widen the work opportunities on job market.

Cultural Experience and Personal Growth

Living abroad is always an enriching experience by itself. During the stay, international student will become acquainted not only with the American culture, lifestyle, and environment, but, due to diversity of the student community and American society, with cultures of other natins and ethnicities. He/She will learn how it is to live in foreign country. Thus students have an opportunity to obtain real global perspectives for their life, important multicultural skills and worldwide professional and personal contacts.

If You Want to Study in the United States

Start Early

If you decide to study in the United States, we especially recommend to start early, which means at least year and half in advance. During all stages you may contact the Advising Center for help and assistance.

Start with Yourself

Analyze your personal preferences. Clarify your aims, expectations, requirements, qualifications and motivations for study in the United States. Find out about equivalencies of your level of education and learn what level of study in the U.S. system is appropriate to your qualification.

Get Acquainted with All Possibilities

Visit the corresponding introductory seminar of the Advising Center where you learn about possibilities that the United States is offering in the educational field and what steps must be taken to study in the U.S. Familiarize yourself with fundamental information provided at the EducationUSA website about selected level of study.

Select Schools

Select several schools that fit your requirements and qualifications. School selection is demanding process because of the number and diversity of educational institutions. Set up your criteria for program selection. The more specific you are, the better. If you need financial support for your study, combine the search for a matching school with the search of suitable scholarships and other forms of financial aid. Contact the school, if you need additional information and documents.

Apply to Schools

Find out the details about conditions of the admission`s process at your selected schools - what documents are required, what standardized tests must be taken, and when the application deadline. Prepare, register, and take the tests. The required documents including completed application form and tests scores, must be received at the school before the determined deadline.

Accept Admission and Apply for Visa

If you are selected for admission (and you also prove financial capabilities), then the school, at which you confirm acceptation of admission, will issue a form I-20 necessary for the application for a student visa. You should apply for this type of visa by following the standard procedure at the U.S. Embassy.

Get Ready for Your Departure and Stay in the United States

After issuing a visa, you should prepare for practical aspects of your stay and study in the U.S. Most important things to be arranged are flight tickets, health insurance, and financial arrangements. In this stage you should be in intensive contact with school to find out more about housing arrangements and your program for the first days after your arrival to the United States. Most schools provide new students with an orientation. Students usually leave for school during the second half of August.

What Level of Study is Appropriate for You?

Are You a Secondary School Student or Graduate?

If you study at a secondary school, you may consider participation at a high school exchange program in the U.S. If you are finishing your secondary studies, it means you are in the last or before the last year, if you have already finished, you will probably think about continuing your study at a U.S. college.

Are You a University Students or Graduate?

If you already study at a university, then, if you are at the start of your studies, you may still consider a transfer to U.S. school. If you are in the second half of your studies, you should consider a study in graduate programs leading to a Master or Ph.D. degree.

If you are not interested in full-length program, you can decide to participate in a short-term program, for example summer school.

Summer Work & Travel and internship programs are popular ways to experience USA for students full-time college students.

Do You Just Want to Improve Your English?

The United States offer a broad range of possibilities regarding English language courses. Of course, courses are offered not only for students but for anyone who wants to improve his/her English language skills.
