For teachers

The U.S. selection procedure for the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program is administered by our partner, the Academy of Educational Development. U.S. candidates should apply through this organization.

Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange Program

The Fulbright High School Teacher Exchange Program provides opportunities for U.S. teachers to participate in direct exchanges of teaching positions with colleagues from the Czech Republic for a full school year.

Usually, up to 3 Czech teachers and 3 U.S. teachers participate in the program each year.

Most frequently, English as a foregin language is the subject taught by the American teachers in the Czech Republic as any other subject would usually require bilingual (Czech, English) instruction at a Czech school. Program participants have the opportunity to live and work immersed in the culture of the Czech Republic--an experience which has benefits for the teachers, their schools, and their communities. This experience is both gratifying and challenging. Maturity, flexibility, adaptability, and inventiveness are necessary traits in successful Fulbright teachers.

Fulbright program staff in the U.S. and in the Czech Republic match U.S. and overseas candidates each spring. Fulbright staff then propose matched-exchanges that each candidate and each school administration must approve before the program takes place.
