For U.S. Scholars and Lecturers
The selection procedure for the U.S. Scholar program is administered by our partner, the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. U.S. candidates should apply through this organization, however the Fulbright Commission in the Czech Republic is prepared to assist in locating research contacts or discussing the feasibility of projects.
Core Fulbright Scholar Program
This traditional program allows U.S. scholars and professors to research or lecture in a wide variety of academic and professional fields or cooperate on curriculum development in the Czech Republic for a semester or academic year. The Czech Republic also offers the Masaryk University Distinguished Chair in Social Studies.
Applications are welcome in all disciplines, although preference may be given to subjects related to the United States and to applicants who will assist with curriculum and program development at their host institutions.
The academic year is from October 2011 through May or June 2012. The length of the fall semester for lecturers is 3-4 months. Second semester begins in February and usually lasts 4 months.
Affiliations are possible with a variety of academic institutions, but opportunities also exist for collaboration with public officials and professionals at other institutions. Double affiliations may be requested.
Fulbright Specialist Program
The program is designed to award short-term grants to qualified U.S. faculty and professionals, in select disciplines, to engage in short-term collaborative 2 to 6 week projects at institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic.
Project activities focus on the strengthening and development needs of institutions of higher education and do not fund personal research. Eligible activities include teacher training, short-term lecturing, conducting seminars, special conferences or workshops, as well as collaborating on curriculum planning, institutional and/or faculty development.
Qualified U.S. faculty and professionals can apply throughout the calendar year to join the Fulbright Specialist Roster for a 5 year term. Peer review is conducted eight times each year.
